• May be the most peace-loving of all the Mastiffs. 
  • Gentle, tender, kind, sensitive and affectionate, particularly with children. 
  • This stable, calm dog rarely barks and is never aggressive, unless the situation warrants it.
  • Alert, protective of its territory and owner’s property. 
  • Wary of strangers, and not easily swayed. 
  • Its formidable size is enough to dissuade almost anyone. 
  • Training must start early, it should be firm, but undertaken with patience. 
  • Can be content living in an apartment but must get out daily to stretch its long legs. 
  • Needs space and exercise. 
  • Should however not exercise too vigorously until it has stopped growing, or it may damage joints and ligaments. 
  • Has a short life expectancy of only eight years.
